THE PATH TO E-MOBILITY – PROPOSALS FOR FUTURE STEPS
At the “Belgrade Energy Days” conference, organized by the Secretariat for Energy of the City of Belgrade, Boris Ćorović, Secretary General of the Serbian Association of Vehicle and Parts Importers, took part as a panelist in the discussion on “Perspectives of Electric Vehicles in the Republic of Serbia.”
In his address, Ćorović reminded that the year 2035 will mark the end of production of new internal combustion engine vehicles in the EU.
He also presented a set of proposed measures aimed at accelerating the development and popularization of electric vehicles in Serbia – grouped by levels of responsibility: national, city, and municipal.
At the national level, he emphasized the importance of introducing green license plates, increasing and simplifying the subsidy procedures, expanding the charging network, and amending the legal framework so that electricity for EV charging is billed per kilowatt-hour (kWh) rather than per parking time.
Regarding the City of Belgrade, he proposed introducing local subsidies for purchasing electric vehicles, especially for taxi services. The proposal also includes positive discrimination in favor of electric taxis – through priority spots at taxi stands, dedicated chargers, and other operational benefits.
It was also highlighted that the city could further support the green transition by ensuring that all vehicles owned or leased by the City of Belgrade are electric, and by considering non-financial incentives such as permission to drive in bus lanes, free parking, and access to delivery zones (such as Knez Mihailova Street) exclusively for electric vehicles.
The panel concluded with a clear message – electric vehicles are an inevitability, and timely action by institutions at all levels is crucial to ensure Serbia is prepared for the new era of mobility and contributes to cleaner air and a more sustainable environment.
