Import of Used Vehicles into Serbia does not slow down

The import of used cars into Serbia does not slow down, according to statistical data held by the Serbian Association of New Vehicle and Parts Importers.

An analysis of data on newly registered used vehicles conducted by Cube Team shows that, unfortunately, vehicles with Euro 3 and Euro 4 engines are being imported without hindrance, flooding our country with vehicles that are unsafe, environmentally unacceptable, and whose import is prohibited in many countries.

Data shows that in the first six months of 2024, 65,275 used vehicles were imported into Serbia. Last year, 2023, a total of 131,905 used cars were imported throughout the entire year. To remind, in the first six months, 18,256 new passenger and light commercial vehicles were sold in Serbia.

In the structure of used vehicle imports in the first six months of this year, nearly half of the total number are vehicles with Euro 3 and Euro 4 engines.

Thus, a total of 6,273 vehicles with Euro 3 standard engines were imported, accounting for 9.61%. 23,345 vehicles with Euro 4 engines were imported, making up 35.76%. Vehicles with Euro 5 engines constitute 29.90% (19,514 used vehicles) of the total used vehicle imports, while those with Euro 6 engines amount to 16,143 used vehicles, which makes up 24.73%.

When considering the age of these vehicles, the picture of used vehicle imports becomes even gloomier.

Only 3,826 used cars registered for the first time in this period are younger than five years. Up to ten years old, only 18,818 vehicles were imported, meaning that from New Year to July 1, a total of 46,457 used vehicles older than ten years were imported into Serbia.

As for brands, Volkswagen remains the most imported used vehicle brand. In the first six months of this year, 12,703 Volkswagens were imported. Audi is in second place with 5,792 vehicles. Next are Opel with 5,303, Peugeot with 5,225, Renault with 4,463, BMW with 4,128, Citroën with 3,562, FIAT with 3,316, Mercedes-Benz with 3,295, and Ford with 3,262 vehicles.

A total of 51,049 vehicles from these ten brands were imported during the first six months of this year.
