The Serbian Market for New Passenger Cars and Light Commercial Vehicles in the First Half of 2026

In the first six months of 2026, a total of 22,155 new vehicles (passenger cars and light commercial vehicles combined) were registered for the first time in Serbia, which is 3,327 more than in the same period of 2025, when 18,828 vehicles were first registered. This represents a respectable growth of 17.67%.

The number of first-time registrations was 1,842 in January, 2,412 in February, 3,866 in March, 4,581 in April, 4,478 in May, and 4,976 in June.

Škoda recorded the highest number of registrations with 4,247 units. It was followed by Toyota with 2,622, Volkswagen 1,423, Renault 1,144, Hyundai 1,100, FIAT 1,087, BMW 919, BYD 772, Dacia 745, and Chery 734.

Passenger Cars

First-time registrations of passenger cars in Serbia reached 19,515 units during the first six months of this year, which is 3,043 more than in the same period last year. This represents a significant growth of 18.47%.

Škoda recorded the highest number of registrations with 3,967 passenger cars. It was followed by Toyota 2,436, Volkswagen 1,078, Hyundai 1,052, Renault 978, BMW 919, BYD 772, Kia 728, Dacia 725, and Chery 724.

Light Commercial Vehicles

First-time registrations of light commercial vehicles (LCVs) in the Serbian market also recorded growth in the first six months of 2026. During this period, 2,640 LCVs were registered for the first time, which is 216 more than in the same period of 2025 (January–June: 2,424). This represents an increase of 8.91%.

Fiat recorded the highest number of registrations with 367 LCVs. It was followed by Volkswagen with 345, Peugeot 294, Škoda 280, Foton 239, Toyota 186, Ford 180, Renault 166, Opel 105, and Mercedes-Benz 96.

Powertrain Types

Passenger Cars

Hybrid vehicles became the leading powertrain type in the Serbian market during the first six months of 2026. A total of 7,245 petrol-electric hybrids (37.13% market share) and 1,266 diesel-electric hybrids (6.49% market share) were registered for the first time. Together, hybrids accounted for a total market share of 43.62%, surpassing petrol-powered vehicles, which recorded 8,168 first-time registrations and a market share of 41.85%.

If we also include the 535 battery electric vehicles (2.74%), electrified vehicles account for a total market share of 46.36%.

Diesel-powered vehicles accounted for 10.21% of the market (1,992 first-time registrations). Diesel vehicles were also the only segment to record a decline, down 5.37% compared to the same period last year, when 2,105 diesel vehicles were first registered.

Petrol-electric hybrids recorded growth of 50.25% (from 4,822 units), while diesel-electric hybrids increased by 4.89% (from 1,207 units).

Battery electric vehicles recorded the strongest growth in the first six months of the year, increasing by 232.30%, compared to just 161 first-time registrations in the same period of 2025.

During the first six months of 2026, there were also 289 first-time registrations of petrol-LPG vehicles, two diesel-LPG vehicles, and 18 petrol-LPG-electric vehicles.

Light Commercial Vehicles

Diesel-powered vehicles continue to dominate the Serbian light commercial vehicle market, with 1,836 first-time registrations and a market share of 69.55%. Diesel LCVs also recorded growth of 1.2% compared to the same period of 2025, when 1,814 units were first registered.

Petrol-powered LCVs ranked second with a market share of 13.37% and 353 first-time registrations. Battery electric LCVs accounted for 10.68% of the market, with 282 first-time registrations.

There were also 48 first-time registrations of petrol-electric hybrid LCVs and 27 diesel-electric hybrid LCVs. Hybrids accounted for a combined market share of 2.84% of all first-time registered LCVs during the first six months of 2026.

During the first six months of this year, there were also 5,880 motorcycles registered for the first time with petrol engines, one diesel-powered motorcycle, two powered by mixed fuel, and nine electric motorcycles.

Interesting Fact

During this year, the Serbian market also recorded first-time registrations of 91 Porsche vehicles, 12 Maseratis, and seven Lamborghinis.
