Overview of the New Vehicle Market (Categories M1, N1, L) in Serbia – First Six Months of 2025

The new passenger car market in Serbia continued its growth during the first half of 2025, confirming that consumer interest in modern, safer, more environmentally friendly, and technologically advanced vehicles remains strong. At the same time, a significant decline in the sales of light commercial vehicles was recorded in the same period, which may be an indicator of decreased economic activity. The "L" category market achieved notable growth across all subcategories (motorcycles, scooters, mopeds).

According to data from the Serbian Association of Vehicle and Parts Importers, a total of 18,902 new vehicles (passenger and light commercial) were registered in the January–June 2025 period, representing a 3.54% increase compared to the same period last year, when 18,256 units were sold – 646 fewer.

For comparison, in the first six months of 2023, 15,065 vehicles were sold, meaning that the growth in the first half of 2024 amounted to 21.18% compared to 2023.

Passenger Vehicles (Category M1)

In the first six months of 2025, a total of 16,473 new passenger vehicles were sold, which is 1,315 more than in the same period of 2024 (15,158 vehicles), or an increase of 8.68%.

For reference, in the first half of 2023, 12,664 passenger vehicles were sold, marking a 19.69% increase in the first half of 2024.

Light Commercial Vehicles (Category N1)

Unlike the passenger vehicle segment, the light commercial vehicle (LCV) market recorded a decline. In the first half of 2025, 2,429 LCVs were sold, compared to 3,098 in the same period of 2024 – a drop of 669 units or 21.59%.

In the same period of 2023, 2,401 LCVs were sold, meaning there was a significant 29.03% increase in the first half of 2024.

Category "L"

In the first six months of 2025, 2,395 new motorcycles were sold – 350 more than in the same period of 2024 (2,045 units), representing a 17.11% increase. Additionally, 2,926 scooters were sold, which is a 48% increase compared to 1,983 sold in the first half of 2024.

Monthly Sales Trends

For passenger vehicles, the most successful month in both 2024 and 2025 was April – with 3,786 units sold in 2025 and 3,748 in 2024. The weakest month in the first half of 2025 was January (1,492 units), which was also the weakest in 2024 (1,519 units). This confirms that the Belgrade Auto Show in March still has a strong impact on the seasonal sales spike.

For light commercial vehicles, the best month in the first half of 2025 was June (587 units delivered), while February was the weakest (267 units). Last year, during the same period, April was the strongest month (603 units), and February the weakest (390 units).

Drivetrain Type Analysis – Passenger Vehicles (M1)

In the first half of 2025:

• Petrol: 7,836 vehicles (47.57%)

• Diesel: 2,105 vehicles (12.78%) – a drop of nearly one-third in share

• Hybrids (all types): 6,039 vehicles (36.66%) – significant increase

• Electric: 161 vehicles (0.98%) – slight growth, still below 1%

• Other: 332 vehicles (2.01%)

In the first half of 2024:

• Petrol: 7,326 vehicles (48.31%)

• Diesel: 2,960 vehicles (19.46%)

• Hybrids (all types): 4,438 vehicles (29.36%)

• Electric: 116 vehicles (0.77%)

• Other: 318 vehicles (2.10%)

Drivetrain Type Analysis – Light Commercial Vehicles (N1)

In 2025 (January–June):

• Petrol: 299 vehicles (12.31%) – a 51.33% drop compared to 614 in 2024

• Diesel: 1,814 vehicles (74.68%) – slight increase compared to 1,784 in 2024

• Other: 207 vehicles (8.52%) – drop compared to 494 in 2024 (15.95%)

• Hybrids: 61 vehicles (2.51%) – down from 97 in 2024

• Electric: 48 vehicles (1.98%) – down from 102 in 2024

Mopeds, Scooters, and Motorcycles (L)

In the moped, scooter, and motorcycle segment, petrol engines dominate with over 99% market share (4,333 units sold).
In the first six months of 2025, 8 electric, 5 diesel, and 3 two-stroke (fuel mixture) motorcycles were sold.

The situation is almost identical to the same period last year.
